Northeast Center for Youth & Families

Northeast Center for Youth & Families provide services to adolescents and their families. NCYF offers a range of help, from residential treatment, in-home support, educational services and also affiliations with specialized providers for added help.

NCYF has been organized for over twenty years. The residential counselors are the UAW bargaining unit at NCYF, who work in the four residential programs. There are three home like programs in Springfield and one in Northampton.

The work that the unit does is not easy and all counselors must be restraint trained. The client population can be volatile and unpredictable. Workers face the real risk of being injured on the job and must agree to the possibility of having to restrain someone. Having to work with troubled youth and children can be extremely challenging and all of the counselors are to be commended for the work that they do. It is not an easy job. The rewards are limited in terms of wages and benefits and the risks are high.
